The needle roller bearing is a special type of roller bearing that uses long, thin cylindrical rollers resembling needles. Needle roller bearings offer great rigidity and hence have the ability to handle a larger, more rigid shaft in a given application.
These bearings have higher load carrying capacity than single-row ball or roller bearings of comparable OD. Sometimes, to conserve space, the inner ring may be omitted and the needle rollers ride directly on the shaft.
Radial needle bearings are cylindrical and use rollers equable to the axis of the shaft. Thrust needle roller bearings are flat and use a radial pattern of the needles.
What's special about it?
The rolling elements used are shaped like needles. These needles, with round or flat tips. The Needle bearings have rollers that are at least four times longer than their diameter.
The bearing supports very large loads thanks to the contact level developed by the needles which are mounted in a steel or molded polyamide cage.
Completed complement bearings have solid internal and external rings and rib-guided cylindrical rollers. Since these bearings have the largest possible number of rolling elements, they have extremely modern radial load carrying capacity and are suitable for especially compact design.
The Needle roller bearings are available in a single row, double row, and solid or split (divided) cage units.
